Hope everyone is enjoying the fine weather ! The sun has been bringing a lot of people outdoors which is great, and calm sea conditions have been amazing for spotting whales and dolphins. However, please remember to observe them respectfully by keeping your distance and not pursuing them, especially when on watercraft. We have had reports from concerned members of the public with regards to boats, kayaks, and most recently jet skis, getting way too close and following animals around. It is not only disturbing the animals, but can also be a danger to you. Please review and share our Code of Conduct for operating watercraft around cetaceans below. ... See MoreSee Less

The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Shannon Dolphin Project (1993-2023) this year with a series of articles reflecting on the first 30 years of the project. The second article in the series, 'Shannon Dolphin Project: Adolescence' by Simon Berrow, describes how dolphin-watching has become an important part of tourism development in west Clare, along with the designation of the estuary as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) in 1999, providing the Shannon Dolphin Project with a great platform for growth and progress thanks to the heavy investment in new dolphin-watching vessels in Carrigaholt and Kilrush.See more at iwdg.ie/the-shannon-dolphin-story-adolescence/.#shannondolphins #bottlenosedolphin #30years #SDP #iwdgproject ...
