About this event
The course will include decision making on what is, the most appropriate response, first aid to stabilize the animal and re-floating techniques. Practical session on the beach with whale pontoon and life sized whale and dolphin models.
IWDG accredited course open to all. Cost is 30 euro for members or 50 euro for non-members. Participants should bring wet or dry suit if intending to enter the water. We also recommend participants bring a packed lunch, and warm clothes for after the practical session.
10:00 – 12:00 Theory session in Eachleim Hall
14:00 – 16:00 Practical session (location TBA)
Following this course participants will be aware of current best practice and hopefully have the confidence to make an informed decision if ever face to face with a beached whale or dolphin.
Please note as the practical portion of this course requires participants to be close together when ‘refloating’ the dolphin, all those who wish to join must show proof of having either a COVID-19 vaccination card, or a negative test taken within the last 48 hours. This course is for people aged 18 years and over.
