Amado Hidalgo

Amado is a telecommunications engineer from Spain with a Masters from Trinity College in Management of Information Systems and a Masters from DCU in Computer Forensics. He has over 25 years experience in leadership roles in operations, customer support, programme management, customer success, sales engineering and cybersecurity, and worked in the tech sector in Ireland since the late nineties, both in indigenous companies as well as multinationals such as Dropbox, Kaseya and Symantec. In 2024 he transitioned to Diving Ireland, the national governing body for underwater sports in Ireland, as Head of Operations.
He has experience at Board level in several nonprofits such as St John Ambulance Ireland, GOAL (in the Technology Advisory Board), Woodbrook College, Coder Dojo, Diving Ireland, and past volunteering engagements with Irish Refugee Council, KIND, Witness, Environmental Justice Foundation, SOLAS and others.
He started scuba diving in 1998 and has a keen interest in all things ocean related. His first close sighting of a large whale was in the Magellan Strait in Patagonia in 2019. He is looking forward to his first sighting in Irish waters aboard the Celtic Mist.
