IWDG Cetacean Stranding Scheme
The IWDG Cetacean Stranding Scheme has documented an increase in records of live stranding cetaceans (especially dolphins) across Ireland since 2022.
Due to our concern for the welfare of individual cetaceans, we aim to create a network of veterinarians around the country who are trained in cetacean euthanasia.
IWDG were successful in our application to the Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine for an Animal Welfare Grant which supports the objective of training veterinarians to identify if a cetacean should be euthanised, the various options available, which are recommended and why, and how to carry them out safely and efficiently.
