Jo Green

Citizen Science Officer, ACCLIMATISE

Jo is the Citizen Science Officer for the ACCLIMATISE Project, a PEACEPLUS funded initiative within which IWDG is focusing on bottlenose dolphin photo identification. Jo’s job is to draw on citizen science initiatives and participation in IWDG’s Sightings Scheme to build on IWDG’s coastal bottlenose dolphin photo identification catalogue, and process and match bottlenose dolphin images to the catalogue. The aims of the project are to gain a better understanding of the population’s distribution, abundance and social connectivity, particularly in the waters of Northern Ireland and Donegal.

Jo studied Ecological and Environmental Science at the University of Edinburgh, and after graduating in 2024, she gained valuable experience in bottlenose dolphin photo ID, and marine mammal surveying as an intern with IWDG’s Shannon Dolphin Project. Since then, Jo has worked as a Marine Mammal Ecologist with IWDG Consulting in Dublin Port, before returning to bottlenose dolphin photo ID with the ACCLIMATISE project.
