ISCOPE

The Irish Scheme For Cetacean Observation and Public Education (ISCOPE) ran from February 2002 – January 2006 as an intuitive to actively promote better awareness and knowledge of cetaceans in Irish waters while encouraging public participation in cetacean recording.
The project received funding from the Heritage Council, Environment and Heritage Services (Northern Ireland), Marine Institute along with the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

41 public talks were delivered during its lifetime all around Ireland in addition to 26 training workshops with accompanying field trips in 12 counties. Effort watches at selected land based sites were carried out along with at sea surveys on ships of opportunity to collect additional cetacean data inshore and offshore.

It was a very successful scheme which developed and encouraged many of the countries effort watchers that are still active in pockets right around Irish coast.
