Fin whales in big numbers off West Cork

You will definitely need a telescope as they have been consistently 10-15 miles offshore, which is outside binocular range. Don’t wait as there is no guarantee the current calm weather will last too much longer.

This morning’s watch 18th Oct 2004, off Galley Head produced a tally of eleven cetacean encounters, breaking down as follows.

c13 Fin whales in 4 groups of 1, 3, 5 & 5

1 minke whale

25 Common dolphins

c8 harbour porpoise

Also 2 snow buntings courtesy of Dave Mc Cadden.

This is really as good as it gets.

Enjoy!!
