Bottlenose dolphins now in Kinsale Harbour

IWDG initially learned of this most recent Bottlenose dolphin activity during a “Heritage In Schools” visit to to St. Joseph’s Girls Primary School Kinsale on 23rd May, when several of the students informed IWDG Sightings Co-ordinator that there had been dolphins in the Sandycove and inner Habour area in recent days. So the students weren’t the only ones to learn something about whales and dolphins!

Since then we have recieved daily reports of between 2-5 dolphins moving between Charles Fort, up to the new bridge. This is yet another great opportunity for members of the public to observe this charasmatic dolphin species, which may be attracted by a salmon run on the River Bandon.

Please foward any details of sightings of these and any other cetaceans to IWDG. It would be great to have an opportunity to view any images obtained, which might help us establish whether these are the same bottlenose dolphins that have appeared in Courtmacsherry and Cork Harbour in recent weeks.
