Breaching Basking sharks in Kerry! ..New Images

IWDG received some amazing images from photographer Michael Herrmann of around 10 basking sharks seen in St. Finan’s Bay, Co. Kerry on 15th May including images of a basking shark breaching!

The easterly winds recently have led to some great sea conditions on the south west coast for whale watching and indeed shark watching, as can be seen with the picture of the four animals feeding “head to toe ” in the above photo.

Michael even managed to secure that elusive image of a basking shark breach, which is difficult to achieve as, unlike whales, they tend to give no advance warning and generally only breach once. With a whalewatch planned for tomorrow afternoon from Bray Head, Valentia Island (about 5km away), we’re hoping a similar display is planned for tomorrow…….
