ISCOPE II

This project was built on the ground work of its predecessor from May 2006 – December 2009. The project continued to promote the awareness and recording of Irish cetaceans with the same funders.

An increased emphasis was placed on collecting sighting data in offshore waters in addition to inshore waters from ships of opportunity ranging from naval vessels to commercial ferries. Land based watches continued to be carried out during the project.

Eighteen stands providing information on Irish cetaceans were manned at major maritime or biodiversity events to engage with the general public while 44 talks were carried out across the country in addition to 21 training workshops which were attended by 562 individuals while increasing engagement from government agencies was also promoted.

The project proved to be successful in achieving its aims of promoting cetaceans to the public while gathering additional data to be used to conserve the countries species.
