IWDG's research vessel Celtic Mist sailed into Galway bay today Saturday 26th of July, following a two week survey targeting bottlenose dolphins off the Northwest and West coastline. The survey was conducted by IWDG members and led by Dr. Joanne O'Brien and Dr. Simon Berrow. The crew departed Greencastle, County Donegal on the 13th of July and have encountered numerous sightings of harbour porpoise, bottlenose dolphins and minke whales.
The vessel will be open to visitors during the week in The Docks in Galway, inviting members to come visit your vessel and also inviting members of the public to come along and meet with IWDG members and officers and learn about the work of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group and how you can join up and get involved with us.
Celtic Mist will be open to visitors from 12pm tomorrow Sunday, we hope you will take this opportunity to come onboard and see our vessel.
We will be offering day trips to IWDG members over the August bank holiday weekend, Saturday, Sunday and Monday in search of cetaceans in Galway bay
Full schedule of visiting hours during the week to follow.
