The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group is delighted to announce that it has once again received funding through the Heritage Council’s Organisation Support Fund for 2026.
This funding will strengthen IWDG’s organisational capacity, enabling us to continue protecting Ireland’s marine biodiversity while expanding our public engagement, citizen science programmes, and organisational development.
The programme supports three key areas of our work: strategic coordination and communications, education and outreach, and the ongoing development of our digital infrastructure. Together, these will enhance how we deliver national conservation initiatives, support volunteers and members, engage communities, and manage the valuable marine biodiversity data that underpins our research and advocacy.
Through this funding, IWDG will continue to strengthen nationally important programmes including the All-Ireland Whale and Dolphin Sighting and Stranding Schemes, the Shannon Dolphin Project, WhaleTrack Ireland, Heritage Week, Biodiversity Week, All-Ireland Whale Watch Day, the Floating Classroom, and a range of education and outreach initiatives that connect people with Ireland’s extraordinary marine wildlife.
The funding will also support improved organisational planning, governance, fundraising capacity, member resources, and digital systems, ensuring IWDG remains a resilient and sustainable organisation capable of responding to the growing challenges facing Ireland’s marine environment.
