UPDATE:
The latest news is that three common dolphins were found at Dungarvan but only two were still alive when found. Both of the live animals were in poor condition and one was confirmed dead later. The third dolphin moved inwards with the tide but was in poor condition and was still in the area on Saturday 14th. Unusually, this is the fourth dolphin live stranding since the start of the year with a probable common dolphin in Duncannon, Co. Wexford on 6 January (refloated), three common dolphins in Tarbert, Co. Kerry on 8 January (two refloated, one died), this stranding in Dungarvan on 13 January and a solitary dolphin in the Kenmare river on 14 January (refloated, but still in the area and not out of danger yet).

The IWDG have just been informed that two Common Dolphins have live stranded in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford in the past hour. The dolphins are high up near Kinnegar and it’s 1.5 hours before low tide. We are notifying our stranding network to see who can assess the situation and will post more updates when we have them.
This is the second live stranding of Common Dolphins this week, as three dolphins stranded in Tarbert, Co. Kerry. There is no evidence that the two are linked.
