Marine Wildlife Tour Operators Course
Letterfrack, Co Galway, 27-28 November 2010
The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG) have identified a need to develop a training course and accreditation scheme to ensure marine wildlife tour boat operators and guides can provide a professional and informative product and adopt best practices to ensure sustainable development.
In order to promote and support responsible marine wildlife tourism the IWDG are running a two-day course in Letterfrack, Co Galway on 27-28 November, 2010. The course would be delivered by Dr Simon Berrow and Conor Ryan of the IWDG. The course will take place in the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology facilities in Letterfack, Co Galway.
The course will cover:
marine mammal identification and ecology
fish (basking shark, sunfish) identification and ecology
turtle identification and ecology
seabird identification and ecology
legislation (DCMNR Marine Notice, cSAC, cSPA)
sources of resources (ENFO, websites, NGOs)
Cost is only 50 per person for the two days as the course is supported by a Biodiversity Grant from the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government through the Irish Environmental Network.
The course will be of interest to operators of marine wildlife vessels, guides and others interested in marine wildlife tourism.
