Pilot Whales Strand in Cork

On Sunday the 6th of May, two long finned pilot whales stranded at Ballydehob in west Cork. Through a joint local effort the two animals were refloated. However on Monday the two animals were found stranded again on Hare Island in Roaringwater Bay. Again through local efforts and with help from the MMRT, one animal was refoeated. The second animal died on the beach.

The remaining animal spent the rest of the day swimming very close into shore and restranded in Ballydehob again on Wednesday. After a failed refloating attempt on Wednesday night the animal died. A post mortem on the two animals is due to be carried out.
