Sail Training for IWDG Members

IWDG members West Cork Sailing have kindly offered discount Sail training to all members for a limited time only!

Cruising training and charter are onboard Jessy of Adrigole, 37 foot Jeanneau Sun Odyssey, that has been modified to take sail trainees.

You will be cruising by day to harbours and bays within Bantry Bay and surrounding area, which is perfect for taking your Day Skipper or Competent Crew course.

ISA Competent Crew

Trainees will be learning about life on a cruising boat – how to sail, handle sheets, lines and halyards, how to use winches, understand some basic chart work, how to use the anchor, and how to handle dock lines and mooring lines.

ISA Day Skipper

Trainees will take turns navigating and skippering the boat to various locations within Bantry Bay under the direction of the instructor. Nights will be spent on anchor or on a visitor mooring and students may go ashore in the dinghy if weather allows or prepare passages for the following day.  Day skipper trainees will practice navigation, boat handling under sail and engine crew organisation harbour and docking manoeuvres and general responsibilities of a skipper. Before taking this course they will need an understanding of navigation to Day Skipper theory level, have an ability to sail a boat and be familiar with all of the skills covered within the comp crew course. Full details of the syllabi are available from the RYA and ISA. We recommend log books are purchased before coming on the course, so trainees are fully familiar with the course content and prerequisites. Available from RYA or ISA.
